With the right type of flash cards and teaching method, you can teach your baby or toddler effectively.

Is your baby 0-3 months old or 4-6 months old?

This is the best age to teach your baby.

Before you buy online or not, here are the type of flashcards you should introduce to your baby/infant.

Here are the 5 best types of baby flash cards recommended:

1) Infant Stimulation flash cards / Black and White Baby Flash cards

Age: 0 to 3 months old

These flashcards are all in black, white and red.

At this age, your child is still developing their eyesight. The only colour that the babies eyes can see is the colour black, white and red.

Babies at this age like to look at pictures with high contrasting colours and are already learning and discovering their surrounding.

The idea is to get your baby started by looking at these cards. By looking at the cards, it will stimulate your baby's brain development.

2) Phonics Reading Program Flash Cards

Age: 4 months old and above

These flashcards teach your child reading and talking. What you want to do is introduce new sounds to your child.

This is the perfect time to introduce phonics sound.

At his age, it is not about teaching. it is about exposing to new sound and images.

Babies at his age absorb information like a sponge.

Most parents think the Alphabet / ABC flash cards come first.

To the baby, the A, B or C's are not images they are just symbols.

3) Math Dot Flash Cards

Age: 4 months old and above

Professor Glenn Doman mentioned in his book "How To Teach Your Baby Math?" mentioned, the first part of learning math is quantity recognition. Doman believes your child's first exposure to mathematics should be quantities (dots on flash cards), not numerals (1,2,3).

These cards consist of images of dots on the flash card.

Just like the phonics flash cards. It is time to introduce "quantity" to your child, not "numbers" because numbers represent a symbol.

For example, the "7" symbol/numerals represent a quantity is 7 dots on the flash card.

4) Picture Word Flash Cards / Children Flash Cards

Age: 6 months old and above

These flash cards are pictures of everyday objects ( for example, things surrounding your baby, pictures of fruits, animals, objects in the playground, the mall, vehicles and many more.)

Infants at this age love to see pictures. Make sure the flash card have bright, happy and cheerful colours.

The flash cards must be realistic pictures and NOT CARTOONS.

This is the time you expose your child to images.

5) Alphabet Flash Cards / ABC Flash Cards

Age: 6 months old and above

Picture flash cards should be introduced to your child first before you introduce A, B, C flash cards to your child.

Why?

Alphabets like ABC represents a symbol. An "A" does not mean a thing to your baby. You must attach meaning or an image to that A, B, C symbol.

Conclusion:

If your baby is 0-3 months old, you introduce Infant Stimulation Flashcards.

Once your baby is 4-6 months old you can start with math dots, Phonics Reading cards, picture and words cards and lastly alphabets.

When teaching your child, you got to be flexible. Observe what stage of development or level your child is and then use the right material to teach.

How to start your baby flash card lessons?

When your baby is new to flash cards and starting his lessons...

- It’s best to start with something a little easy. What you want to do is to get your baby to feel confident.

- Create a routine. For example, you can have your lessons once your child gets up or just before a meal. Your child will know that it is "lesson time."

- Do not test your child. Especially when your child is very young, your focus is all about input.
